Where Big Data hangs its big hat

When IBM brought Grove in on the Big Data Hub initiative, we knew right away that great content would be our ace in the hole. But early designs and prototypes were… workmanlike. Not that enjoyable to actually use. Over a period of just three months, Grove IA people and designers transformed the site. Today the Big Data Hub is sought out by tens of thousands of global users daily; its traffic exceeds all similar online resources. And with new content being added hourly, Grove’s intuitive structuring proved a critical component of the portal’s continued success.

After assessing basic functionality, personas and primary tasks, we set out to map every opportunity—big or small—to improve the overall user experience. This meant finding and/or creating more efficient paths for users to get the content they want quicker and more easily. Visual brevity became our guiding design principle.

Grove IA mapped functional paths all over the site—infusing them with a new visual language inspired by the more colorful choices within the IBM identity. Today, the Big Data Hub is sought out by tens of thousands of global users daily.

Ultimately, Grove made the Big Data Hub helpful instead of merely demonstrative, which in turn allowed the site to truly delight users—users who came for myriad reasons and resources—which in turn delighted IBM.
