NICOLE BERARD

Associate Creative Director

Nicole never had much choice about being a writer. Her earliest memories are of telling stories and acting out elaborate soap operas with her stuffed animals. When your best skills are making things up and talking a lot, advertising is a natural fit.

Nicole self-describes as 80% Muppet: silly but sincere, a giant toddler with rampant curiosity and a penchant for making up songs. That leaves 20% for hardcore strategic thinking, dissecting the world around her and digging in to what makes people tick. A creative at heart, she has nevertheless spent almost equal time working in brand strategy and user experience. All great creative work, ultimately, is about empathy and one side cannot work without the other.

Nicole thrives on a little chaos, but one of her biggest pleasures is creating order and context. A veteran of most of Boston’s largest agencies (Digitas/Arnold/MullenLowe) and founder of Boston University’s content strategy practice, she has wrangled some of the largest brands on earth: The U.S. Military. Google. Delta Airlines and Royal Caribbean International. Her work has been awarded with six Cannes Lions, a Clio and an Emmy.

Nicole spends a lot of time reading, crafting, cooking and gardening. She has run away with the literal circus twice and served as president of Boston Circus Guild. She’s a person you’d want to talk to over a good sandwich, and she’s happy to make you one if you’re hungry. She received a BFA in creative writing from Emerson College.
